Objectives:

  1. Describe the fundamentals and mechanisms of action of neuromodulation.
  2. Discuss new scientific data and guidelines to improve patient selection and treatment outcomes for neuromodulation.
  3. Identify potential benefits, limitations and complications of neuromodulation therapies.
  4. Critically appraise scientific literature and scientific research in the fields of neuromodulation, interventional pain medicine and functional neurosurgery.
  5. Analyze and understand psychiatric factors affecting outcomes in the treatment of chronic pain, movement disorders and psychiatric disorders.
  6. Discuss and analyze the anatomy and physiology of the CNS, peripheral and autonomic nerves to assist in patient selection, target selection and likelihood of therapeutic success.
  7. Discuss the uses of devices for functional electrical stimulation including rehabilitation of motor loss, loss of sensory function, and loss of cognitive function.
  8. Explain emerging therapies and research in the field of neuromodulation.
  9. Understand mechanisms of disease states such as complex regional pain syndrome, refractory angina and visceral pain syndromes and explain the current position of neuromodulation in these conditions.

INS 10th World Congress Accreditation and Designation Statement
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of Blackwell Futura Media Services and the International Neuromodulation Society. Blackwell Futura Media Services is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Blackwell Futura Media Services designates the educational activity, Pre-Conference on 21 May, for a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits (TM) and the main educational activity on 23-26 May for a maximum of 25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits (TM). Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

*No CME will be offered for the Pre-Conference on 22 May.

CME EVALUATION FORM

CPD Points in the U.K.
Delegates may claim a maximum of 20 CPD points for attending the event. These points should be claimed as External CPD with The Royal College of Anaesthetists. Events are scored on the basis of one point per hour of educational content and are capped at five points per day (excluding coffee breaks, lunches, etc). Please note that individual participants may only claim the number of hours that they attend.
